Hillcrest PE/Health Rules and Grading Procedures

Hillcrest Middle School will offer a comprehensive Physical Education program that adhere to state and district guidelines. We believe our program will challenge each student to reach his/her highest potential and allow opportunities for success and enjoyment.

We would like to explain a few items of importanace to you and your child about our Physical Education program here at Hillcrest Middle School.

Each student is required to dress appropriately for the daily activities. A CHANGE OF CLOTHES IS REQUIRED. The Physical Education department requests that each student has the following:

Red or black pull on shorts with no buttons, belt loops, or zippers.

White or grey T-shirts with no buttons or zippers and the same length as dress code.

Tennis shoes with socks

Sweat suits or warm-ups during the cold weather months (Colors must be red, black, gray, or blue).

Students should dress appropriately for the weather conditions.

Must include a different shirt or sweatshirt, pull on shorts, or sweats without buttons or zippers and appropriate shoes

Shirt must be a full T-shirt with sleeves

NO tank tops

NO half shirts or torn shirts

Mid-section must be covered

NO short shorts - must be covered when bent over.

Each student will be issued a lock and assumes full responsibility for that lock. Each student will be required to replace it at a cost of $5.00, if it is lost. CAUTION: Do not give your locker combination number to anybody. The PE Department or Hillcrest will not be responsible for lost or lack of care or the property in the locker room.

Parent notes to excuse a student from PE are good for up to three days. Anything past three days must be a written note from the doctor. Students who have parent/doctor notes under any circumstance will be required to complete a one-page summary of an article related to health or fitness provided by the teacher. The teacher will determine special circumstances for make-up work for long term absences.

Due to the fact that Physical Education is an activity class, all days missed due to absences or parent/doctor notes must be made up by a written summary from a health or fitness article. One article is required per each missed day. You will have as many days as absence of note to make up the work. If the work is not made up, you will receive a zero for that day.

Throughout the school year, the Physical Education students will rotte thru a three-week block schedule consisting of Health Eduaction, fitness center and conditioning, and team sports.

Grading is based on participation, effort, and possible written tests. This includes dress out, listening, following directions, and completion of daily objectives. There are 4 points possible each day. The breakdown of the points are as follows: dressed out = 2 points and participation/effort = 2 points.
